Democrat joins race for Wyo. House seat

CHEYENNE, Wyo., April 14 (UPI) -- Casper, Wyo., attorney John Henley has become the third Democrat seeking to run against U.S. Rep. Barbara Cubin, R-Wyo., in November.

Saying he wanted to work for more affordable health care, Henley jumped into the race Tuesday. Also seeking the Democrat's nomination for the state's at-large congressional seat are business consultant Ted Ladd and John Hanks, an archivist at the University of Wyoming.

A fourth candidate, 2002 nominee Ron Akin, suspended his campaign Monday, citing his failure to race money.

Cubin, who was first elected to the House in 1994, easily won re-election in 2002, defeating Akin by over 44,000 votes out of close to 180,000 cast. George W. Bush carried Wyoming in the 2000 presidential election winning 69 percent of the more than 200,000 votes cast.
