Thailand cracks down on dual nationality

BANGKOK, April 12 (UPI) -- Thailand officials say they will crackdown on people holding dual citizenship in an effort to control unrest in southern areas of the nation.

"Malaysia has made clear they won't accept individuals with dual nationality," Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said Monday after meeting his Malaysian counterpart, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. "Today our cabinet ministers and senior officials will lay down guidelines for this matter."

The officials said the crackdown involves only those with criminal records, the Bangkok Post reported.
