Powell names anti-Semitic conference team

WASHINGTON, March 25 (UPI) -- Secretary of State Colin Powell Thursday named members of Congress who will represent the United States at a conference on anti-Semitism.

The conference, organized by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, will be held in Berlin from April 28-29.

The members include Sen. George V. Voinovich (R-OH), Rep. Christopher H. Smith (R-NJ), Rep. Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) and Wan Kim, deputy assistant attorney general, Department of Justice.

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch will head the U.S. delegation.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, hosted an initial conference on anti-Semitism in Vienna last June. The Berlin conference will build on the results of the Vienna meeting in an effort to identify measures that participating states can take to combat anti-Semitism and promote tolerance.

The OSCE is made up of 55 nations including the United States, Canada and countries in Europe and Asia.
