CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., March 22 (UPI) -- Two people have been charged with breaking into Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's mountaintop home in Virginia.
Authorities said the two are believed to be students at nearby University of Virginia -- the school designed by Jefferson and visible from the U.S.'s third president's estate. Conner Ginley, 20, and Lynn Horn, 22, were charged with felony breaking and entering and are free on bond.
A security guard reported hearing shutters banging and a woman's voice and contacted police. The guard said a window had been opened and he saw two people walking from the house. The pair were then stopped by two security guards.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch quoted Horn as saying the pair did not enter the house and added, "We wanted to be on top of the mountain and enjoy the nice weather."
Nothing appeared to have been taken from Jefferson's home, a major tourist attraction in central Virginia.
