Kennedy supports foreign-born as president

BOSTON, March 22 (UPI) -- Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., says he is ready to support a constitutional amendment to let foreign-born citizens be president of the United States.

Kennedy made the disclosure Sunday on the Meet the Press television show.

Among politicians who could become presidential candidates if such an amendment became law would be Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who had proposed the change, Mich. Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Madeleine Albright, the Boston Herald reported Monday.

"Most American historians believe that it's probably an anachronism in any event, due to the time, and I would (support the change)," Kennedy said.
