Justice to get Senate memo leak report

WASHINGTON, March 17 (UPI) -- A report on how U.S. Senate GOP staff obtained memos written for Judiciary Committee Democrats is reportedly headed to the Justice Department.

Senate Sergeant at Arms Bill Pickle said he would give his office's report to the U.S. Department of Justice "for a possible criminal prosecution," The Hill newspaper said.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, gave Pickle the authority to decide whether to make the referral. Hatch, who has been criticized by Republican conservatives for the way he has handled the matter, made his decision after members of the full committee failed to reach agreement on how to settle the matter.

Said Pickle: "They will be getting the report this week. We will move on from there when they review it." He added, "It is up to the Department of Justice as the experts to decide if they want to review it."
