Former Indiana governor dies at 86

, March 12 (UPI) -- Robert D. Orr, the governor of Indiana from 1981-89 has died of an apparent heart arrhythmia at age 86, the Indianapolis Star reported Friday.

Orr, who died Wednesday, first came to the statehouse in 1968 as a state senator, before being elected in 1972 as lieutenant governor. He won the first of two terms as governor in 1981.

Memorial services will be Tuesday in the Indiana statehouse.

"He loved being governor," said Lisa Kobe, a one-time aide in the Orr administration. "He spent 20 years in the statehouse. It just seems right to hold the service there."
