Four dead in Baltimore Inner Harbor

BALTIMORE, March 6 (UPI) -- A recovery effort went on late Saturday for three passengers missing after a water taxi capsized in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, killing one person.

The confirmed victim and the three still missing were tossed into water when sudden high winds swept across the water as a thunderstorm approached, flipping the pontoon boat as Naval reservists watched from across the water, WBAL-TV, Baltimore, reported.

Many of the 22 people taken out of the water by the reservists and others had held on to the capsized craft that was almost 40 feet long.

None had time to put on their life jackets. The woman and child pronounced dead at the hospital appeared in cardiac arrest when they were taken from the water, witnesses said.

The boat was one of many that take thousands of tourists to various points around the historic Inner Harbor. It had just left Fort McHenry, carrying 23 passengers and two crew, when it appeared to be attempting to head back, turning sharply as it crossed the Patapsco River in choppy waves and high winds.
