Iraq draft constitution done

BAGHDAD, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- The Iraqi Governing Council Monday finished a draft constitution that now goes to the U.S. administrator of Iraq for final approval.

The constitution resolves the most serious problems by saying Islamic law is "a" source of legal guidance rather than "the" source, and it apportions a quarter of the seats in parliament for women.

The draft document is meant to be a guide for a permanent charter that would be written by an elected assembly after the control of the country is relinquished by the United States, the BBC said.
