Kerry takes Idaho caucus, Utah primary

SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- John Kerry continued rolling toward the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday with big wins in the Utah primary and Idaho's party caucuses.

With results from the Hawaii caucuses still pending, Kerry's delegate total rose to 698 with 2,162 needed to clinch the nomination. John Edwards' delegate total stood at 203.

In Utah, Kerry captured nearly 55-percent of the 11,327 votes cast while Edwards picked up 30 percent and Dennis Kucinich 6.6 percent.

In Idaho, some votes remained uncounted but CNN projected Kerry as the winner with 58-percent of the vote to Edwards' 21 percent. Kucinich checked in with 5 percent.

Tuesday's voting set the stage for next week's "Super Tuesday" contest in which 10 states and 1,151 delegates will be up for grabs.
