Wolfowitz visits Iraq

BAGHDAD, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz arrived in the Iraqi capital Baghdad Sunday on the first day of Islam's Eid al-Adha holiday.

Wolfowitz, on his third visit to Iraq since the collapse of Saddam Hussein's regime on April 9, attended a ceremony switching American troops serving in Iraq.

The U.S. official, who arrived from Germany, told reporters he would review developments in Iraq in the past three months.

Among the developments, he listed the capture of Saddam Hussein.

Wolfowitz's visit comes ahead of a U.N. delegation due to arrive in Iraq on a fact-finding mission to study the possibility of holding early general elections in the country.

During his last visit to Baghdad in October, Wolfowitz escaped with his life when the hotel in which he was staying fell under a mortar attack, killing an American soldier and injuring three others.
