MIAMI, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- A Florida judge is expected to ratify a plea deal reached Sunday that could free Lionel Tate, the youngest person sentenced to life in prison for murder.
"He is anxious, but he is ready to get things moving and to get on with his life," his attorney Richard Rosenbaum, told the Miami Herald Sunday.
Tate, now 16, was sentenced to life in prison for murdering a 6-year-old girl when he was 12. His trial defense was that he was acting out professional wrestling moves on Tiffany Eunick when he beat her to death with brutal force.
The current plea offer is the same one Tate's family rejected before his trial when he was 14, the Herald said.
The plea agreement gives him credit for about three years time served at the youth facility in Okeechobee, Fla., requires one year of house arrest, 10 years probation and psychological counseling.
