No witnesses will be called to give evidence in person at the hearings, , Edinburgh's The Scotsman said Thursday.

The inquest will be the first official public hearing into the deaths held on British soil.

Princess Diana, 36, and Fayed, 42, were killed along with their chauffeur, Henri Paul, when their Mercedes crashed in an underpass on Aug. 31, 1997.

The only investigations so far were conducted by the French courts, which concluded Paul was on a cocktail of alcohol and prescription drugs and lost control because he was speeding.

The deaths of the princess and Fayed have remained the subject of intense speculation, particularly from his father, Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed who has maintained the accident was a part of a conspiracy by those who disapproved of Diana's relationship with his son.
