BRASILIA, Brazil, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- A former presidential hopeful slammed Brazil's president Friday saying his party is more interested in "power" than governing.
"It has been clear up to now that there has been (in Brazil) a project of power, not a project of government," said Jose Serra who assumed the leadership of one of the nation's top opposition parties Friday.
A former senator and minister of health, Serra lost the October 2002 election to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Brazil's first left-wing president in nearly 40 years.
However, Lula can expect to hear much more from Serra from now on since he assumed the leadership of the center-right Social Democratic Party.
Serra criticized Lula's economic policy and efforts at widespread reform, calling his government "a kind of Bolshevism without a utopia."
