CHESAPEAKE, Va., Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Jurors in the Virginia trial of accused Washington-area sniper John Lee Malvo heard a recording of an interrogation Tuesday in which Malvo admits the crime.
The Washington Post reported the now 18-year-old Malvo said during the interview that last year's shooting spree would have continued until the government paid the $10 million he and his alleged accomplice, John Allen Muhammad, demanded.
During the interrogation with Prince William, Va., detectives, the teenager described himself as a willing and able partner in a plot to wreak havoc on the United States.
Malvo is charged with two counts of capital murder, with one charge based on a new Virginia law making an attempt to influence government action a capital offense.
Malvo is accused of killing Linda Franklin, who was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Home Depot in Virginia's Seven Corners area.
Malvo has pleaded innocent by reason of insanity. Muhammad was convicted of the murder of one of the 10 sniper victims, Dean Meyers. A Virginia Beach, Va., jury is now considering his sentence.
Both trials were moved from Fairfax County on change of venue motions.
