Floods in Dominican Republic kill three

SANTA DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- At least three people died and 4,000 homes were evacuated Tuesday in the northwest section of the Dominican Republic because of heavy rains.

Civil defense chief Radhames Lora told reporters his organization carried out air- and water-borne rescues and distributed food and air mattresses in the hardest-hit communities.

The Spanish language news service EFE reported in Santiago, the country's second-largest city, 2,000 homes were ordered evacuated.
