WASHINGTON, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Newsweek magazine Sunday speculated comedian Al Franken could become the next celebrity to enter the politics.
Since Arnold Schwarzenegger's victory in California, rumors are that George Clooney and Dennis Miller may both be interested in political careers.
Now, says Newsweek, add Minnesota native Franken to the list.
Franken told the magazine he is "intrigued" by the thought of taking on Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., who succeeded Paul Wellstone after he died in a helicopter crash.
Franken, a noted liberal, said Republicans are hypocrites when it comes to celebrities and politics.
"Republicans always say, 'How dare Susan Sarandon and Martin Sheen get involved in politics!'" he told Newsweek. "Then Arnold showed up and it was 'Oooh! Arnold's running! Oooh! The Terminator!'"
Franken said he used to say he would never run because he'd make a terrible official. "Now I don't want to say that, because it would look bad if I ever did run," he said.
