Controversial Diana book hits stands

LONDON, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- A book about the late Princess Diana that promises to tell all but stops short at the end hit the bookstands Monday amid royal criticism, reports said.

After a week-long serialization of "A Royal Duty" by Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, in the Daily Mirror in which Diana's "last secret" was promised, the book stops short, with Burrell saying "Sorry -- that's between the butler and the princess."

Both of Diana's son lashed out at Burrell Friday for what they called a "cold and overt betrayal" of their mother's trust, but Burrell stood firm, the London Telegraph said.

Burrell told the London Daily Mail he would love to give Princes William and Harry "a piece of his mind" and told them to "grow up."

The London Telegraph said lawyers for Buckingham Palace were scrutinizing the book Monday.

In light of withholding the "last secret," Burrell was asked by the BBC if that meant he had a sequel planned. Both Burrell and his publisher, Penguin Books, adamantly deny any sequel is in the works.
