Poll says one in four women groped

NEW YORK, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- One in four U.S. women told a poll conducted by Inside Edition they had been groped at some point in their life.

The poll, to be aired on the Inside Edition television news magazine next Monday, said groping was defined to the respondents as "touched in an unwelcome or inappropriate manner." The questions were put to 401 women.

The poll found virtually no difference by generation -- in fact, exactly the same percentage of women under age 30 reported groping incidents as those over age 50 (27 percent for both groups).

But it found women who attended college (32 percent) were twice as likely to have been groped as those who did not (16 percent).

Seventy-eight percent of the women said they were very angry about being groped. Another 17 percent were a little angry. Only 4 percent were not angry.

But 75 percent of the women who reported being groped did not report the incident, while 25 percent went to authorities.

Inside Edition conducted the poll to find the extent of the problem after accusations that California's new governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, groped women during his Hollywood career.
