SAO PAULO, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Rescue workers arrived Monday on the scene of a plane crash that killed a prominent Brazilian politician.
Six members of Brazil's Aeronautic Rescue team arrived at the crash site located in the dense jungle thicket in southwest Brazil hoping to recover the bodies of Rep. Jose Carlos Martinez -- who was also president of the Brazilian Labor Party, or PTB -- and three other men.
According to Brazilian news sources the team's efforts to recover the bodies has been hampered by bad weather.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed his remorse over the weekend at the loss of the congressman, whose PTB is a part of his ruling coalition of parties.
Authorities said the accident occurred Saturday morning shortly after takeoff when the plane carrying Martinez and the other passengers disappeared from radar. The group of men was setting out for a remote locale on a fishing trip.
Aviation officials said over the weekend they expected the investigation of the crash to take 90 days.
