Memo calls for cooperation with leak probe

WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- The White House has ordered all personnel to preserve any material that may relate to allegations someone in the administration leaked the name of a CIA agent.

Presidential Counsel Alberto Gonzales issued a memo Tuesday ordering the preservation of "all materials that might in any way be related to the department's investigation."

Gonzales' memo said a letter from the Justice Department that would provide "more specific instructions on the materials in which it is interested" was expected to arrive later in the day.

President Bush, meeting with reporters Tuesday afternoon following a Chicago appearance, said he believes there are too many news leaks in Washington.

Said Bush: "There are too many leaks of classified information in Washington. There's leaks at the executive branch; there's leaks in the legislative branch. There's just too many leaks.

"And if there is a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is. And if the person has violated law, the person will be taken care of."

The president said he is confident the Justice Department will do "a very good job" investigating the situation.
