Runner dies during Robin Hood marathon

NOTTINGHAM, England, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A 28-year-old runner collapsed and died during the 23rd annual Robin Hood Marathon in Nottingham, England, Sunday.

After running nine miles, the runner fell near the Queen's Medical Center, the BBC reported.

The runner, whose name was not immediately released, was treated on the scene by a doctor and a midwife who were also running in the race.

The race attracted nearly 10,000 entrants from around the East Midlands and the United Kingdom, the BBC said.

"This is a very tragic event and our thoughts go out to his family," Marathon organizer Hugh Brasher told the BBC.
