Betty Ford skips out on lawsuit deposition

RIVERSIDE, Calif., Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Former First Lady Betty Ford may face contempt charges for failing to show for a court ordered deposition in a breach-of-contract lawsuit against her clinic.

Mark Greenberg claims he was wrongfully terminated and denied compensation after helping launch a recovery program for the Betty Ford Clinic, The Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.

Ford, 85, is chairwoman of the board and Greenburg's attorneys claim she plays an integral role in company decisions.

Ford's attorney said she is in Vail, Colo., and offered to have her deposed there.

But, Greenberg's attorney Gerald Sauer said he may file contempt charges against the wife of Gerald Ford, the 38th president of the United States.

"I hope I don't have to initiate contempt charges, but I am prepared to do it," Sauer said, "if that's what it takes to get her to show up for her deposition."
