LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Wednesday he will enter the California recall race, thereby befuddling most political mavens who predicted he'd decline.
Schwarzenegger made the announcement during a taping of NBC's Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
CNN reported Schwarzenegger told Leno politicians should do their job for the people and if they don't, "Hasta lavista, baby."
During a news conference following the taping, the actor promised he would go to Sacramento and "clean house."
He said: "The big problem is that California is being run by special interests and we have to stop that. I don't need to take money from anybody. I have plenty of money myself. I will make my decisions for the people."
He told Leo during the taping he realizes he will probably be the subject of negative campaigning, since he has no experience in politics and has been accused of being a womanizer. But he said all that, in the end, doesn't matter and that California needs new leadership.
He ended his news conference by repeating to reporters one of his most famous movie lines: "I'll be back."
