MERIDIAN, Miss., July 10 (UPI) -- The Mississippi gunman who shot 14 co-workers, killing five, may have been targeting his victims, a report said Thursday.
And it may have been his live-in girlfriend's pleas that ended the nightmare for 138 employees at the Lockheed Martin plant, the Mississippi Clarion-Ledger reported Thursday.
The details of the 10-minute shooting rampage of Doug Williams were released by Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie Wednesday.
Williams, described as an "angry man," was being investigated by the company's human resource manager, possibly regarding anger management issues, Sollie said.
Williams' girlfriend and co-worker, Shirley Price, sought him out, pleading for him to stop shooting, officials said.
As they approached each other, he fired a fatal round into his left upper torso and died, Sollie said.
Company officials had been monitoring Williams' behavior following a verbal confrontation with an black man in December 2001.
