Israel within reach of Iranian missile

JERUSALEM, July 4 (UPI) -- Iran has successfully tested a Shihab-3 missile -- capable of carrying a ton of explosives -- putting Israel within firing reach.

The latest test was the most successful of several tests conducted by Iran in five years and has increased worries in Washington, which spotted the test using tracking systems, Haaretz reported.

The missile was launched from east to west and had a range that could stretch from western Iran to Israel, according to Haaretz. Also within range of the missile are Turkey, India and U.S. forces in the Gulf.

More information about the missile test is being collected.

The daily Israeli newspaper also reported that the test provides an incentive for Israel to equip itself with more Arrow missiles. The Israeli government is also concerned about growing ties between Iran and Libya.
