Rice received two death sentences in 1998 for the 1996 murders of Bernard Jackson and James Jefferson following a barroom argument in Philadelphia.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court upheld the death sentences on Feb. 20, 2002, and the court denied arguments on April 18, 2002.

On Sept. 13, 2002, Rice filed a petition for writ of certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court. His request was denied.

Rice, 32, is being held at the State Correctional Institution in Greene, Pa.

This is the ninth death warrant signed by Rendell since he assumed office.
