ADL condemns Southern Baptist leader

NEW YORK, June 19 (UPI) -- The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Thursday condemned a Southern Baptist leader for comparing Judaism with a potentially "deadly tumor."

The president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Al Mohler, made the comment during a June 16 speech to a meeting of the Southern Baptist Messianic Fellowship.

Mohler referred to Scripture as mandating Jewish conversion, saying the act of warning Jews about the danger of their beliefs is "the ultimate act of Christian love."

ADL National Director Abraham Foxman said he was shocked and outraged a leader in the Southern Baptist church would compare Judaism with a deadly tumor that needs to be removed.

Foxman said: "These offensive remarks highlight the dangers of the Southern Baptist effort now going on for several years to convert Jews. We have said many times that it is pure arrogance for any one religion to assume that they hold 'the truth.'"
