Kazakhstan cabinet resigns

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 11 (UPI) -- Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev Wednesday accepted the resignation of his cabinet in a conflict with parliament over land reforms.

The row broke out in May after the lower house of the parliament, Majlis, introduced what the administration viewed as too many proposed amendments to the draft code drawn up by government officials.

Premier Imangali Tasmagambetov explained his resignation as a "way" to resolve mistrust between the two branches of the state power.

Nazarbayev met behind closed doors with members of parliament Wednesday to discuss the land code. The parliament next takes up the matter June 27.

Nazarbayev is expected to name a new premier Friday.
