One dies, four wounded in Iraq attack

BAGHDAD, June 7 (UPI) -- Another ambush near Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit killed one American soldier and wounded four others Saturday, Voice of America reported.

The soldiers were attacked by gunmen wielding small arms and a rocket grenade, military officials said.

Meanwhile, an International Atomic Energy Agency team toured Iraq's main nuclear facility, which was damaged and looted during the war. Authorities said Iraqi troops fleeing the invasion left the plant unguarded for about two weeks. Now, officials are trying to determine how much refined uranium may be missing and unaccounted for.

The U.S. military has been buying back stolen radioactive contaminated barrels by the load from residents who had been using them to store drinking water.

Officials fear thousands of villagers in and around the Tuwaitha nuclear plant have gotten sick from drinking contaminated water.
