U.S. offers protection for Gulf shipping

LOS ANGELES, March 26 (UPI) -- The United States and its allies pledged Wednesday to take steps to protect merchant ships and tankers in the Persian Gulf. The State Department said coalition forces would protect ships while the Transportation Department would continue to offer war-risk insurance for vessels, including those hauling relief supplies to Iraq.
