Bill Mauldin, famed WWII cartoonist, dies

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Bill Mauldin, who put a face -- albeit a dirty one -- on the U.S. soldier of World War II, has died. Mauldin, 81, created Willie and Joe, the irreverent American GIs who slogged through the war, and also won two Pulitzer Prizes for his cartooning.
