Georgia Democrat Cleland loses Senate seat

ATLANTA, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- With White House backing, conservative four-term Republican congressman Saxby Chambliss apparently defeated U.S. Sen. Max Cleland in Georgia on Tuesday. In a race where the candidates spent an estimated $25 million, Chambliss criticized Cleland for his opposition to President Bush's proposed Homeland Security Department.
