Senate votes down wider Iraq resolution

WASHINGTON, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- The Senate Wednesday moved one step closer to approving the White House-backed resolution to use force against Iraq when it overwhelmingly voted down a resolution which would have given the president additional authority to employ U.S. troops against five terrorist groups. They are Abu Nidal Organization, Hamas, Hezbollah, Palestine Islamic Jihad and Palestine Liberation Front.
