Lawmakers claim FEC guts campaign law

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- House and Senate lawmakers accused the Federal Election Commission of proposing a series of rules they claim would gut the recently enacted ban on the use of unregulated "soft money" donations to political parties. Reps. Marty Meehan, D-Mass., and Chris Shays, R-Conn., said Thursday that they plan to file a lawsuit to stop the proposed rule.
