War Emblem denied Triple Crown

ELMONT, N.Y., June 8 (UPI) -- War Emblem, winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, failed to capture the Belmont Stakes Saturday in an effort to become the first horse in 24 years to win the Triple Crown. Sarava, who left the gate at 70-1, won the Belmont Stakes. The last horse to win racing's grand prize was Affirmed in 1978.
