3 Camp Pendleton Marines killed

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Military investigators sought Thursday to determine what caused a troop truck to overturn during routine maneuvers at Camp Pendleton, killing three Marines and injuring five other servicemen.

The accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday during exercises at a training ground on the northern end of the base near Oceanside, base officials said.

The three Marines killed in the crash were:

Cpl. Daniel L. Hudson, 21, of Bolingbrook, Ill, filed artillery cannoneer.

Cpl. Aaron M. Pinnetti, 19, of Bristol, Maine, filed artillery cannoneer.

Cpl. Benjamin H. Worchel, 21, of San Antonio, Texas, filed artillery cannoneer.

Two of the injured were treated and released from a military hospital while the other three were taken to other area hospitals.

USMC Sgt. David Salazar said the soldiers were listed in stable condition.

Camp Pendleton is located about 40 miles north of San Diego.
