SPOFFORD, Texas, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Two Air Force pilots killed during a training flight in South Texas were identified Friday by the Air Force.

First Lt. Chad B. Carlson, an instructor pilot from Lewisville, Texas, and 2nd Lt. Nicholas J. Jabara, a student pilot from Colbert, Wash., died in the crash of their T-37 trainer late Thursday. They were pronounced dead at the crash site, officials said.

Carlson and Jabara, assigned to the 84th Flying Training Wing, were on a flight out of Laughlin Air Force Base at Del Rio, Texas, when the plane crashed near the wing's auxiliary airfield in Spofford, about 25 miles east of Laughlin, the Air Force said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by a board of Air Force officers.
