Former Klansmen cleared for bombing trial

BIRMINGHAM,, Ala., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- A judge ruled Thursday that former Ku Klux Klansman Bobby Frank Cherry is competent to stand trial in the 1963 dynamite bombing of a Birmingham church that killed for young black girls. Jefferson County Circuit Judge James Garrett ruled the 72-year-old Cherry competent to be tried for murder in the explosion at the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church.
