Fugitive dad charged in Oregon murders

NEWPORT, Ore., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- State and federal arrest warrants were issued Friday for Chris Longo, the former Michigan resident who allegedly murdered his wife and three kids in Oregon during the week before Christmas.

Lincoln County authorities announced late Friday that Longo, 27, was charged with four counts of aggravated murder in the deaths of his wife, Mary Jane, 35, and their three children, Madison, 2, Zachary 5, and Sadie Ann, 3.

The FBI said an accompanying federal warrant charged Longo with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. District Attorney Bernice Barnett revealed for the first time that Longo apparently had fled the state of Oregon.

"Christian Longo was last known to be in the San Francisco area as late as Dec. 26," Barnett said.

Longo may be driving a green Dodge Durango with Michigan license plates.

The whereabouts of Christian Longo became an urgent priority in Lincoln County in the days before Christmas after the bodies of Zachary and Sadie Ann were found in Lint Slough, a coastal waterway near the seaside town of Waldport.

While the rest of the Longo family was being sought, divers searching Yaquina Bay in Newport, 15 miles north of Waldport, discovered the bodies of Mrs. Longo and her other daughter, Madison. Barnett said Friday that autopsies had determined Mary Jane and Madison were victims of "homicidal violence."

The Longos had moved to Lincoln County in September after Chris Longo was placed on probation in Michigan for passing bad checks and forgery. He was being sought in Oregon for allegedly stealing two crab traps from a beach home they had rented for about a month.
