MCALESTER, Okla., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Convicted killer Lois Nadean Smith -- the last woman on Oklahoma's death row -- was put to death Tuesday night by lethal injection.

Smith, 61, was the third woman and 17th inmate executed this year at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary at McAlester.

Smith was pronounced dead at 9:13 p.m CST. She was convicted of the 1982 murder of her son's former girlfriend, Cindy Baillie.

The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board denied

clemency for Smith on Nov. 7.

Before the drugs were administered, Smith signed "I love you" as she raised her head from

the gurney on which she was strapped and looked at the six witnesses who had come to the prison on her

behalf.

She thanked her attorneys for their assistance and

said "To the family I want to say I'm sorry for the

pain I've caused you and I hope you'll forgive me. You must forgive to be forgiven...Thank you Jesus."

She continued to mouth "Thank you Jesus" as the drugs began to flow into her veins.

Authorities said that on July 4, 1982, Smith and her son, Greg Smith, picked Baillie up from a Tahlequah motel. As they drove away from the motel, Smith confronted Baillie, 21, about rumors that Baillie had threatened to have her son killed.

Bailee denied the allegation, but Smith choked and stabbed her before shooting her nine times at a home in Gans.

Greg Smith was convicted of murder and received a life sentence in prison.

Two other women were executed earlier this year at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary. Wanda Jean Allen was executed Jan. 11 and Marilyn Planz died May 1.

Sahib Al-Mosawi, an Iraqi national covicted of killing his wife and her uncle in 1992, is scheduled to receive a lethal injection Thursday.
