April 7 (UPI) -- It didn't take Tim Tebow long to fit in with his minor league team. The former quarterback hit a home run Thursday in his first at-bat. Tebow was batting for the Class A Columbia Fireflies in the bottom of the second inning. The outfielder worked the count to 2-1, before hacking away at the fourth offering from Augusta GreenJackets pitcher Domenic Mazza.

The result was an opposite field 2-run home run to left field. Spirit Communications Park rewarded him with a raucous celebration.
Tebow later grounded out and struck out three times in the match up.
"It felt really good," Tebow told reporters after the game. "Now that it started, we're competing. We are playing to win games. I had a guy on base and tried to knock him in...just make contact, drive the ball."

"I got ahead in the count and he gave me a fastball middle way and I was able to drive it the other way and I thought I had a double, and the guy goes keep going," Tebow said. "And I was like 'alright, I'll take it.' It felt good, though."
The New York Mets Class-A club cruised to a 14-7 victory over the GreenJackets. Tebow hit .148 in 27 Grapefruit League at-bats.
The 29-year-old known for his dedicated fan following is now on pace to hit 140 home runs this season, at his current rate.
