NASHVILLE, April 19 (UPI) -- The National Football League's Tennessee Titans has bounced male cheerleaders from its squad because they are too dangerous, it was reported Monday.

The Titans are dropping male cheerleaders because of liability concerns over dangerous gymnastic stunts, leaving the Baltimore Ravens as the sole NFL team with guys on their squad, the Nashville Tennessean reported.

A Titans official said the new, all-female squad would move away from gymnastics and more toward dance routines. Last year's squad was comprised of 34 females and nine males, including alternates

One of those due to get his pink slip, Carl Gillespie, 44, said he knew of only one stunt injury in five years -- a twisted knee that required surgery.

In expressing his disappointment, Gillespie told the newspaper, "There's a level of liability in any kind of professional action that we do. You can get hurt playing football."
