The 26-year-old Spaniard has won all five of his U.S. Open matches in straight sets. He is in the semifinals at a major for the first time in 16 attempts.

Carreno Busta will face either American Sam Querrey or South African Kevin Anderson in the semifinals.

"It is something that I always dreamed of but never think I would ever be here," Carreno Busta said in a post-match interview. "I'm very excited to be in the semifinals in this tournament."

Carreno Busta recorded 30 winners to go with 30 unforced errors in the one-hour, 59-minute match. He also registered seven aces.

Schwartzman committed 35 unforced errors against just 21 winners. It was the first Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance of his career.
