Rogers Cup: Caroline Wozniacki reaches yet another final

Caroline Wozniacki will be looking for her 26th career WTA title when she takes the court in Toronto for Sunday's Rogers Cup final.

The sixth-seeded Wozniacki rolled through American Sloane Stephens 6-2, 6-3 in 80 minutes in Saturday's semifinal to reach her sixth final of the season.

However, none of those 25 career titles have occurred this year. The Denmark native is 0-5 in finals in 2017.

"I had one year where I went to six finals and I won all of them," Wozniacki said in a post-match television interview. "I guess it's a give and take sometimes and just that I keep myself in these situations is awesome. I give myself a chance to win and that's what I'm going to go out (Sunday) and try to do."

Wozniacki will face either second-seeded Simona Halep of Romania or fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the championship match. The two players meet later Saturday.

Both players advanced to the semifinals on Saturday morning after their respective Friday matchups were postponed by rain.

Halep sailed to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, while Svitolina posted a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over fourth-seeded Spaniard Garbine Muguruza.

As for Wozniacki, she controlled her semifinal match with Stevens with patience and committed just seven unforced errors.

Stevens connected on 22 winners but also had 22 unforced errors.

"She played really well," Wozniacki said of Stevens. "She was hitting the ball very hard, very consistently. I just tried to keep calm and retrieve as much as possible and I put pressure on her whenever I could."

There was a six-minute rain delay late in the second set. Wozniacki quickly won the final game to close out the match after play resumed.

Now she looks to record that elusive first title of the season.

"It has been a really great year," Wozniacki said after improving to 46-15 on the season. "To be in this final once again, it really feels amazing and I feel like I have been playing really good tennis."

Stephens, ranked 934th in the world, gave a good showing in her third tournament after missing 11 months due to a foot injury. She notched upsets of Angelique Kerber and Petra Kvitova on her way to reaching the quarterfinals.
