July 7 (UPI) -- Spaniard Sergio Garcia skipped the Irish Open, opting to sport his green jacket Friday at Wimbledon. Garcia won the 2017 Masters after edging Justin Rose in April during a playoff at Augusta National. It was his first major title.
The Irish Open started Thursday at the Portstewart Golf Club in Northern Ireland.
Garcia, 37, is currently ranked No. 5 in the world.
He wore his special sport coat for Rafael Nadal's 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 win against Russia's Karen Khachanov in the Round of 32. Garcia sat close to David Beckham.
But this isn't the first time the golfer has worn the exclusive green garb in public.
Garcia also wore his green jacket for the ceremonial first kick of El Clásico in April for Real Madrid's battle against rival Barcelona at the Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain.

A few fans have given Garcia a tough time about not playing the European Tour.
"I'm sorry if you don't think that playing @EuropeanTour for 18 years while also playing @PGATOUR is good enough! Sounds easier that it is," Garcia responded Thursday on Twitter.
According to Augusta.com, Masters green jackets are kept on grounds and taking them off of the premisses is forbidden. The winners, however, can take it home and return the jacket to the club the following year.
It costs $250 and takes one month to produce the signature jacket for a Masters champion.
