Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal top 2017 Wimbledon seeds

Defending champion and world No. 1 Andy Murray of Scotland was named the top seed at Wimbledon for the first time in his career, the All England Lawn Tennis Club announced Wednesday.

The other Big Four in the men's draw for the Grand Slam grass-court event getting underway on Monday include Novak Djokovic of Serbia as the No. 2 seed, with seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer of Switzerland third and Rafael Nadal of Spain fourth.

Canadian Milos Raonic, who fell to Murray in the 2016 Wimbledon final, is the No. 6 seed in the men's draw. Jack Sock is the top American seed at No. 17, followed by John Isner as the 23rd seed and Sam Querrey 24th.

World No. 1 Angelique Kerber of Germany is top seed in the women's draw. Simona Halep of Romania is seeded second, followed by Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic, Elina Svitolina of Ukraine and Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark to round out the top five.

Johanna Konta is the sixth seed -- the highest for a British woman since Virginia Wade in 1979.

Petra Kvitova, who won Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014, is seeded No. 11. She played in her second tournament last week since a career-threatening stabbing attack six months ago in her Czech Republic home and rallied to claim the Aegon Classic title on Sunday in Birmingham, England.

American Serena Williams will not play at this year's major in London due to her pregnancy. Sister Venus Williams is No. 10 as the top-seeded American, followed by Madison Keys as the 17th seed and CoCo Vandeweghe 24th.
