Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria earned his 15th win of the year with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-4 victory over Germany's Mischa Zverev on Wednesday at the Rotterdam Open in the Netherlands.
The fifth-seeded Dimitrov lost only once in 2017, a semifinal defeat against Spain's Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open last month. Zverev upset world No. 1 Andy Murray of England in Melbourne.
"I'm pleased with the win," Dimitrov said, via Sky Sports. "Mischa did not make it easy for me with his game. I had to fight to win."
Dimitrov will face world No. 76 Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan on Thursday.
Defending tournament champion Martin Klizan of Slovakia held off Germany's Philipp Kohlschriber 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-1 in second-round play.
