Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo set a YouTube record for the fastest account to reach one million subscribers, hitting the mark within 90 minutes of his channel's launch.
Ronaldo announced the channel Wednesday on his social media accounts, using his trademark "Sui" celebratory phrase -- which means yes in Portuguese -- in his messages.
"The wait is over," Ronaldo wrote on Instagram, X and Facebook. "My YouTube channel is finally here! SIUUUbscribe and join me on this new journey.
"Link in bio!"
Ronaldo posted a video later in the day showing off a Gold Creator Award plaque -- given to those who reach a million subscribers -- from YouTube.
He also received a Silver Creator Award (100,000 subscribers) and Diamond Creator Award (10 million subscribers).
Ronaldo's YouTube channel was at 21.2 million subscribers by Thursday morning. He posted 12 videos in 24 hours. The footage features his family and details his life, including travels and decorated soccer tenure.
The Al Nassr forward is the most-followed person on social media, with more than 900 million followers across all platforms, including 636 million on Instagram, 170 million on Facebook, and 112.6 million on X.
