July 12 (UPI) -- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to replace a key to the city, which was given to United States women's soccer star Allie Long on Wednesday and stolen the next day in Los Angeles while the team was celebrating its World Cup title.
A burglar stole the key, cash and Long's wedding ring from her room Thursday at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Los Angeles. The team flew to California after its victory parade in New York City. Long received her key to the city Wednesday.
"After the ESPYs show someone stole my wedding ring, cash and the key to my favorite city after just receiving it from my hotel room," Long tweeted Thursday night. "Do you make copies [Mayor de Blasio]? I would love a new one."
"So sorry to hear it, Allie," Mayor de Blasio tweeted Friday morning. "Hang in there. Don't worry about the key. Like any good New Yorker, we keep a spare for our neighbors! We got you covered."
Morgan and Long attended the 2019 ESPY Awards, where they received the honor of Best Team. Each player on the team received a key to New York City at the parade before the award show.
Long referenced the theft Thursday on Instagram. Long married fellow professional soccer player Jose Batista in 2016.
"Take my ring but not my mans (or medal thank God)," Long wrote on Instagram.
